Guide summary
Buying a Horse Online Safely
Online discovery should lead into stronger offline checks: establish the seller and horse, inspect evidence, use your own professionals, control the payment process and document the agreement.
What to establish before making contact
Use a structured process when an online listing or marketplace introduces you to a horse and seller.
- Seller and business identity
- Horse identity and ownership
- Independent viewing, assessment and vetting
- Contract, deposit and payment controls
Four checks worth making
Do not rely only on photos, video or platform badges.
Verify documents and records against the actual horse.
Choose professionals independently of the seller.
Stop if payment instructions or identities change unexpectedly.
Business discovery is not horse approval
EquiGuild profiles horse-sales businesses and may display reviewed business evidence. It does not inspect, grade or approve an individual horse.
Check the horse and transaction separately
Confirm identity, ownership, history, suitability and material representations, then use independent professional advice, veterinary examination and written sale terms.
Businesses relevant to this search
